Honda Pakistan Quietly Discontinues the Aging BR-V
Honda BR-V succumbs to growing Chinese options in the Pakistani market as demand shifts to NEVs
Islamabad/Rawalpindi: Honda Pakistan has quietly discontinued its aging BR-V as the market shifts towards Chinese SUVs. While Honda Pakistan has not made the announcement publicly, Motornama was able to verify the information from multiple showrooms across Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where the company has officially stopped taking new orders for the vehicle, and it is not available for display at any location as well.
The BR-V was launched in Pakistan by Honda back in 2017 as the country’s first locally produced multi-purpose (MPV), with a facelift later arriving in 2019. It was launched in three different variants, including BR-V i-VTEC Manual, BR-V i-VTEC Auto, and BR-V i-VTEC S Auto. The manual variant of the BR-V was released later in April 2018 with a 6-speed manual transmission. It was the first in its class as it offered seven seats straight from the factory despite its slim profile.
It was offered with a 1.5L petrol engine that delivered 118 hp with 145 Nm of torque, paired with either a manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission. It had 201 mm ground clearance and managed to offer approximately 12 KM/L average in the city and 15 KM/L average on highways. Before discontinuation, its price started at Rs. 6,429,000.
Honda’s decision to discontinue the BR-V comes at a time when the market is drastically shifting towards NEVs, with many Chinese seven-seater options available with much more modern technology, design, and better fuel-saving options, including full EV, PHEV, and REEV options. In today’s Pakistani market, the Honda BR-V would have directly competed with options like the Changan Oshan X7, Jetour X70 Plus, and Toyota Rush if we compare it with Japanese imports.
