Petrol Pumps Strike Called Off After Government Negotiations
The strike was announced after failed negotiations between the association and the government of daily price revisions and margin adjustment
The All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association has announced that its previous call for a nationwide strike has been deferred after the association held fresh negotiations with the Federal government. The announcement comes during a press conference held by officials of both the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners and Petrol Dealers Association.
The call for strike was announced yesterday after initial negotiations failed between the Government of Pakistan and All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association on the issue of daily price revisions. Last week, the government announced that instead of weekly price revisions, petrol and diesel prices will be adjusted on an everyday basis, which the association rejected and announced a complete shutdown across the country.
During the press conference, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik detailed that the issues will be resolved soon, and it will be addressed through thorough consultation with all stakeholders. He further added that the policy will be reviewed again in two weeks, after which any further action will be taken.

Apart from the daily revisions, the other issue of proposed margin adjustment will be taken to the federal cabinet, where the final decision will be made. Additional details of this will be revealed at a later stage.
The shutdown was slated to go live today at 12 AM, and because of this, long lines were seen on petrol pumps throughout the country as people rushed to get their vehicles filled before the imminent shutdown. With the association’s new decision to defer the strike, things are expected to go back to normal.
