MG Pakistan Launches Cheaper HS Petrol-Only Variant

MG brings the second-generation HS down to Rs. 8.8 million with a 1.5L turbo petrol engine, 7-speed DCT and FWD setup.

MG Pakistan has expanded its second-generation HS lineup with a new petrol-only variant, giving buyers a significantly cheaper way to get behind the wheel of the SUV. Unlike the previously introduced electrified HS variants, the new model drops the electric motors and uses a conventional internal-combustion powertrain.

The new MG HS Petrol is priced at Rs. 8,799,999 ex-factory, positioning it as a considerably more accessible option than the electrified versions. Bookings are now open through MG Pakistan’s official dealerships, with an initial booking amount of Rs. 1.5 million.

1.5L Turbo Petrol Engine

Powering the HS Petrol is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 160 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The engine uses a single turbocharger and sends power to the front wheels through a 7-speed DCT transmission.

The petrol variant is therefore offered exclusively with front-wheel drive (FWD), while its powertrain also distinguishes it from the electrified HS models. The Hybrid+ variant produces 221 hp, while the Super Hybrid version develops 295 hp with assistance from its respective electrified powertrains.

The HS Petrol gets a 55-liter fuel tank, giving it the conventional refueling setup expected from a petrol-powered SUV.

Familiar HS Features

Despite its simpler powertrain, MG has retained much of the equipment that defines the new-generation HS.

Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch infotainment display, an 8-speaker audio system, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver’s seat is 6-way electrically adjustable and includes 4-way electric lumbar support, while the front passenger gets a 4-way electrically adjustable seat.

Safety and driver-assistance equipment also remain a major part of the package. The HS Petrol comes with seven airbags, a comprehensive ADAS suite, and a 360-degree camera to assist the driver when maneuvering in tighter spaces.

Bookings Now Open

MG Pakistan has confirmed that bookings for the HS Petrol are now live across its official dealership network. The company says display units will arrive at dealerships soon, allowing potential buyers to inspect the new variant before making a purchase decision.

With an ex-factory price of Rs. 8,799,999, the HS Petrol gives MG a conventional petrol offering in the second-generation HS range while retaining much of the SUV’s technology, safety and cabin equipment.

Its success, however, will likely depend on how buyers respond to the trade-off: lower upfront cost and a familiar petrol powertrain in exchange for the additional performance and efficiency benefits offered by the more expensive electrified variants.
