Last week, petrol and diesel users saw an opposite trend in their respective fuels. Petrol kept increasing throughout the week with no relief for the consumers; however, the price of diesel decreased suddenly on August 20, 2026, from Rs. 395.69 to Rs. 363.06. This was the biggest dip in diesel prices since the government switched to daily price revisions. However, after the relief, the prices were increased once again for two consecutive days. It remained lower than its all-time high, but it once again saw an upward trend.

International oil prices are easing today after last week’s sharp gains, with Brent crude falling back toward $92–94 per barrel. However, the market remains highly sensitive to developments around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, where continued disruptions are keeping global supply tight. The IEA estimates that global oil supply remains 6.3 million barrels per day below year-earlier levels, while refined-fuel markets are also facing significant supply constraints.
